Christmas, as usual, was a whirlwind of travel and family. We have family spread out all over the state, so we do Christmas in phases. Here are a few shots for now...still getting the last stragglers uploaded--or downloaded--whatever.
First up: Christmas in Eastern Kentucky.
Remember how I mentioned that Sam is all about the iPad right now? At least he shared with his cousins...as long as he got to hold the iPad. It still counts as sharing, right??
When we were at Shawn's mom's, Sam LITERALLY ate. all. night. long. Seriously, every time I saw that kid he was taking a bite of someone's food. No plate was safe. If he spotted someone eating he would bee-line it for them with his mouth open like a little bird waiting for them to deposit some food in it. (Also, notice that his shirt is up over his belly. This is our standard way to wear a shirt these days. Very proud of our belly button, we are.)
I think the biggest hit of the evening in the toy department was the toy vacuum cleaner. (In all honesty, it was pretty cool.) My mother-in-law's floors were shining when the kids finally got finished.
Sam finally snuck off with the broom and dustpan for a little turn. If I had known cleaning was this much fun for him, I would have put him to work long ago.
We attempted a picture with Nana, Bap and the grandkids.
FAIL.
Our niece, Layla, had this really cute skirt on Saturday night. After she put her pj's on, Sam grabbed the skirt and insisted on putting it on. Much to Shawn's dismay, I just let him wear it. Personally, I think he has an eye for accessorizing.
Sam passed out LOTS of kisses while we were there. Actually, he did really well with Baby Clara. I can only hope that he continues to be as thrilled with babies come July.
On Christmas Eve, we spent the evening with my sister and her family. We went to church with them, which was...eventful. Sam decided during the Lord's Supper that he was completely done with being quiet so we got up and walked to the back of the church (we were sitting in the front) so we wouldn't be as much of a distraction. In the back, he continued to fuss and yell "DADA!" despite my best efforts to keep him quiet. Then, when they turned the lights out for the candlelight portion of the service he had a complete meltdown so we finished the service in the lobby. (Always nice to have the loudest kid in a service...especially nice when you are a guest at that church.)
Anyway, after a pretty much disastrous church service, we headed back to the house for dinner and presents. Luckily, our group picture went slightly better this time.
Well...at least we got one good shot.
Christmas Day we just had a quiet, relaxing day at home.
Santa left Sam a tent with a tunnel on it. At first, he wanted nothing to do with it, but the cats sure were glad he got it.
Finally, after LOTS of persuasion we got him to try it out.
He also got a basketball goal. He and Daddy spent the majority of the morning playing a little one-on-one.
The dark horse--a cookie monster that actually eats the cookies you feed him. This one was a BIG hit.
After the excitement had died down, we decided since it was a special day we would watch a Pooh movie. My son, who generally doesn't watch TV and couldn't care less if it was on, was enthralled. Every time Pooh would come on the screen, he would scream, "Boo!" and dance around the room.
We finally got him to settle down enough to actually watch the movie from a more reasonable location.
We had a great Christmas. Mostly, I was just thankful that we were all able to spend it together. Every year I SWEAR that I will slow down and enjoy the season, but despite my best efforts things always seem to get hectic. This year was no different, but I do think we at least did a better job of remembering the real reason for Christmas.
Still to come, a recap from our Western Kentucky Christmas.
